Daylesford Organic
Hi everyone, we are back from our trip to London England and Paris France. We are very excited to tell you about some of the places we visited over the next few weeks.
One of the places that Angela and I had an opportunity to visit was Daylesford, on Pimlico Road in London, for breakfast. A beautiful, posh cafe/bakery/butcher/produce store. In a high end area near Sloane Square. What makes this place different was the fact that Daylesford is completely self sufficient. Everything comes from their own organic farm. The eggs, vegetables, meat, cheeses, even the flour for their breads comes from their farm and is milled by a local miller. As we strolled down Pimilico we came across Daylesford Organic a picturesque store that was stylishly lined with tables and chairs. Just looking at the outside you knew you were in for something special on the inside.
When you walked into the shop/cafe you are immediately stuck with the stunning white and gray marble everywhere. The floor, walls, shelves, counters and even the stairs leading to the upstairs cafe are all made with marble.
As we headed up the marble staircase, we walked right into the cafe. The room was bright with large windows bringing in lots of light with a country-modern and community feel. The tables were long, where everyone eats together like a family. It's not something i'm use to but, it was fun.
We sat down and received our menu and were looking forward to tasting the food. The menu is simple and does change throughout the year, depending on whats available at the farm. You may find dishes like watercress, spinach and parmesan soup, halibut steak, morecombe bay shrimp butter, herb mash or lightly spiced pumpkin, lentil and butterbean casserole, wood-roasted flatbread, sour cream. We chose as a starter, the freshly baked bread with Chateau L'eoube extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The platter came with an assortment of breads. We had a 10 seed bread, country white and a sweet delicious fruit bread. For the two of us, it was a perfect amount. All three breads were wonderful and full of flavor.
For a main course we both ordered the Corned beef hash with a brown gravy. The Corned beef hash came in a cast iron skillet with a seasonal salad and a cold brown gravy, I think that was the biggest surprise. The gravy was not a beef gravy but, a smooth brown, pureed fruit compote, that was sweet, savory with an intense fruity flavor …. just delicious! The corned beef was shaped like a thick beef patty, but when you cut into it, the corned beef it was actually like a pulled pork. This tender, spicy meat was to die for. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Not much in the way of potatoes in this hash but that was ok for me. They topped the hash with an organic sunny side up egg straight from the farm. This was something really special and could be one of the top 3 things I had in London. If you are planning to visit London or live there, be sure to visit Daylesford! It's really worth it.
