Sauerkraut Rye Sandwich Bread

sauerkraut rye sandwich bread

It’s amazing what you can put into a bread. If you think about it, what ever you put in a sandwich you can put into a loaf of bread. Well … Ok, maybe not meatloaf. That would not make a good bread.

But, Sauerkraut is perfect. It gives the bread a sourdough flavor, without a strong sauerkraut flavor. Just be sure to remove the juice from the sauerkraut. I also found this bread to be better after it has cooled. The texture is wonderful and perfect for any sandwich.

That is an interesting bread! It must be very fragrant and so scrumptious! Perfect to make pastrami sandwiches…

    Cheers,

Very interesting indeed. I know that a good German cake recipe I like uses sauerkraut so why not! Being German myself…I will give it thumbs up automatically! But seriously…this does look good and I am sure it adds so much to the moistness of the bread. Another great recipe indeed!

Oh my, this sounds like a great use for sauerkraut (which I can’t get enough of, I love the stuff)…and since my friends and I have missed the opportunity to plan Oktoberfest by about a month (it’s usually in September) and October is almost over, we’re planning a “German Food in November just because…” meal–this will be a perfect thing to add to our menu. I can’t wait to try it.

Hi Chuck- adding sauerkraut to bread sounds like an interesting idea! We have a cousin who is nuts about sauerkraut, so I’m thinking this might make a good hostess gift next time we visit their home for dinner! I started up a new blog (a 2nd one) last week, and today’s featured recipe is bread! Check it out- http://www.CulinaryCovers.com.

    Very very nice!

I absolutely love making my own bread and find it much easier when I use a Panasonic bread maker.
