Asian Multigrain Rice Buns

asian multigrain rice bread
I’m not a big fan of brown and multigrain rice. I find them to be a bit tasteless and bland. However I like to use them in breads, they add a wonderful texture.
I made some fried rice with a multigrain rice that I had purchased from the supermarket. One of the tricks to making a good fried rice is to cook the rice the day before and allow to cool in the fridge overnight. Then when you fry the rice it won’t be mushy and soft.

I had some left over and decided to put the fried rice into the bread. Well, it was amazing! The flavor of these buns is wonderful with a slight flavor of Asia from the soya sauce, garlic, ginger, onions and the red peppers. I think the shape is also very unique and the butter served in the middle is a great way to present this bread at the dinner table. If you are not a fan of multigrain breads … well, you will have to give these buns a try. I know you will change your mind.

You know, I might be to scared to try the bread . . . multigrain is something I like to refer to as “birdseed bread” around here – but your rice looks YUMMY!!

Must keep the bread moist and soft with cooked rice. You always have good ideas.

As an Indian, rice is a daily feature.Last year I discovered it could be made into bread, so now I can have my rice in my bread!:)

I’ve never made rice bread with fried rice before. It looks very colourful. I shall try this next time and can already imagine how good its going to be.

Two great ideas in one post….first…the using of rice in bread. This is a ‘never heard of before’ for me….I shall have to try it. Second…what a great tip about putting the rice in the fridge overnight before frying it. I can see exactly how that would make a difference. Thanks for the post.

What a lovely idea for using up leftover fried rice! Brown rice does take some getting used to but I use it all the time now for health reasons. It has a slighty nutty flavour. One of my favourite ways to prepare it is to season it with jerk spices and pigeon peas. The whole family loves it this way. I have a recipe for it on my blog if you are interested.
