Hamburger Buns

hamburger bun

Yahooo!!!! BBQ season has finally come to Vancouver. We planted flowers set up the new BBQ and placed the patio furniture out. Now it’s time to get down to some serious barbecuing. I’m so excited to show you all my favorite Hamburger Bun recipe. These have to be the most flavorful Hamburger buns in the world. Well, OK I haven’t tasted all the Hamburger buns in the world. But, I know these are at least in the top 5.

The buns are light with a very thin crust on top that I just love in a good hamburger bun. I hate the ones that are so hard you have to rip them with your teeth to get a bite, then all the filling falls out the sides. The interior is soft and the cornmeal on the bottom of the buns adds a slight crunch and extra flavor. I used 3 different size cookie cutters to score the tops of each hamburger buns. I think this really gives them a unique look. Don’t you think they look beautiful? Much nicer than leaving them flat. The poppy seeds and sesame seeds add a wonderful eye catching appeal.

I used Havarti cheese on top of the hamburgers and fried red onions mixed with balsamic vinegar and a little brown sugar then added some sour cream to give the onions a creamy texture. Simply delicious. Then we grilled fresh pineapple for that sweet warm delicious pineapple flavor too. I think it was the perfect summer weekend. With amazingly delicious food.

I really hope you will give these tantalizing hamburger bun recipe a try. It’s truly one of the best.

You’re a genius. I thought you swirled each bun by hand too. : )
How do you think they’d work out if you subbed some whole wheat flour in there?

Is it me….or is the yeast ingredient left out of the recipe? Bread looks awesome! I want to try this but recipe doesn’t say what quantity of yeast to use. Also, is it absolutely necessary to use the instant mashed potato? I don’t have any on hand right now. Can I leave it out or substitute with anything else…like grated parmesan?

  12. on 28 May 2009 at 1:04 pm Bridget

Those are the most beautiful hamburger buns I’ve ever seen!

  13. on 28 May 2009 at 1:15 pm chuck

Jeanette, you are correct! This is the second time I forgot to put the yeast in the recipe.

So sorry, You will need 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast. I will have Angela put that in the recipe later today. She’s at work right now.

I made these in a smaller size for a shower I am giving. They turned out beautiful. My husband says he would like them in full size the next time we have burgers. This dough handles beautifully. Very easy to make and so delicious. Thanks for sharing. I would not have attempted them if not for your wonderful phptos. Steph

    Hi
We don’t have instant mashed potatoes. What can I use for replacement? Thanks!

  37. on 25 Aug 2009 at 12:20 pm Gail

Can I put them in my bread machine or do I have to do it by hand? I just have 3 young children and if I can put it in my machine it is much easier, and a little less time consuming :) thanks for the help! they look FABULOUS! can’t wait to try them!
