potato sourcream and chives loaf

The only way I’ll eat a baked potato is with tons of Sour Cream, melted Butter and chopped Chives smoothing the top of the potato. Sometimes I’ll add a little bacon bits too. I don’t know what it is about that combination, but it tastes amazing. It may not be the healthiest in the world, but than … if you only have it once in awhile it’s OK … Right?

Anyways, I wanted to make a bread with these delicious flavors. Actually, I made both buns ( one dozen ) and a loaf of bread, out of this recipe. Both turned out delicious and full of flavor. If you look at the photos, you will notice that they look like two different breads. The buns are topped with flour before baking and you get this white flour topping with a slight browne color. I think the flour topping looks great on these buns. However, I didn’t feel the loaf would look as good, so I beat an egg white till it became very foamy and brushed the foam on top of the loaf, before baking. When I removed it from the oven I had this gorgeous bubbly texture on top. The color is this rich golden color that is beautiful onto it’s self.

It really doesn’t matter what kind of topping you use, they both look and taste great. Just be sure to have a bowl of chili or hot creamy soup to go with them.

I’ve heard that potato bread lots of times here in Turkey, but never tried it. I just buy them from bakeries, but after this post showing the step by step recipe, I think I’ll give it a try at home.

OK, I confess I have never made bread with potato in it. But I LOVE potato bread. In fact, my fave hot dog buns at the store are potato ones.
