Cream Cheese and Applesauce Bread

I don’t know where you live but, this has to be the coldest winter in years. I think we have almost broken the record for the most snow since 1968 or something like that. One thing I hate about cold whether is I start looking for all the comfort foods I can. I feel like I need to plump up for a long cold winter. I’m really trying hard to be good and lose a little weight but, it’s tough. I seem to always be baking and eating. Don’t get me wrong I love baking but, the weight gain is not so good.

Anyways, a few weeks ago I made this Applesauce bread out of some homemade applesauce I made over the summer. Then I had to take it over the top and add a cream cheese filling to it. I’m starting to plump up here. If that wasn’t bad enough I made a pecan and brown sugar topping to really cause me to gain at least 10 pounds. It was so good with the perfect amount of sweetness. I loved the heaviness of the rolled oats. The topping is crunchy and adds that nutty flavor which really goes well with applesauce. Then we have the filling … well what can I say it’s cream cheese. Who doesn’t love cream cheese.

If your looking for that comfort food and want to plump up like me for the winter. Try this recipe. It’s simply delicious!

That looks scrumptious! How could you possibly go wrong with pecans and cream cheese?

This would be great with a cup of hot coffee or tea. Another great recipe. Thank you, Chuck!

PS; I love your blog’s new layout and design. Pretty and user friendly. I liked the old one too though:) Both are great.

We have such a mild winter on the Island. I love it but we are moving back East. I’m not looking forward to the cold and snowstorm.

    What a beautiful bread!

This looks so good! I just want to verify something on the ingredients for the filling… is it 11 of everything or did you mean just 1? I can’t wait to make this!

how fortuitous! i’ve been looking for a new recipe making use of applesauce, and i just so happen to have some cream cheese festering in the fridge. we have a winner, folks! :)

Lindsay, you are correct it’s a one. I have no idea what happened. I send it to my sister and then she copies and pastes. We looked at the recipe I sent to her and it only had a 1 in front not 11. We must have a ghost in our computer lol.

Thanks for the good eye!!!! We fixed it.

I made this over the weekend, it was amazing, one loaf for me and one for my Grandma . . . however it was quite sweet, I might use less sugar next time, and I added more pecans :-) yum!

I know there are some people who don’t care for cream cheese in anything. I’m not one of them. The cream cheese and applesauce combo in this bread sounds divine.

Ironically we’re having a warmer winter than normal with temps reaching near 80 here. It’s clear, crisp, and warm. Better than summer! And the bread? Oh jeez. And with homemade applesauce too? Sounds delicious.

Gorgeous, gorgeous bread Chuck! I love how it has a bit of indulgence to it via the cream cheese. We’re having the hottest Summer here. How the seasons seem to have gone a bit mad!

  26. on 09 Feb 2009 at 9:09 am Pigpigscorner

OH MY!! This looks gorgeous! I love how you put cream cheese in the middle!

I know what you mean about the weight gain. I’m home all day so the kitchen inevitably beckons and since I don’t have a job to take leftovers to I end up eating them all. This bread sounds like a great compromise!

You’re kidding right. This is unreal!

This is great. A yummy substitute – homemade pearsauce instead of applesauce. Also, for my own personal taste, I felt there was a bit much cream cheese filling – I only used about 3/4 of what I made. I think in the future I might make this in a bundt pan and swirl in the cream cheese filling a little bit. I think it would be a fantastic thing to bring to a brunch.
