Spinach Feta Bread Recipe
October 4th, 2008 by chuck
Cheese breads are a favorite of mine. I think cheese adds a different dimension, an interesting flavor, and texture to breads. Some of my favorite cheeses to add to a bread recipe are cheddar, gruyere and feta. Each one has it’s own characteristic, aroma and taste.

This week I decided to make a Spinach and Feta bread. The feta adds a slight tangy, salty flavor and fills the house with the most amazing fragrance while baking in the oven. The spinach add these beautiful green speckles throughout the bread, that really enhances the look of this bread. You can’t really taste the spinach even though there is about a cup of spinach in each loaf. The combination of rye flour, whole wheat and bread flour contribute to the wonderful flavor also.

One of the things I really love about this bread is when it is toasted, the flavor completely changes. A perfect bread in the morning with a cup of coffee and melted butter smothered on top. Simply delicious!

Hi Chuck, thanks for your comment. Your bread looks so good.

A delightful bread and a wonderful combo! To try as soon as possible!
Cheers,

This looks delicious! I just had a look at both the step-by-step instructions as well as the recipe card – somehow the rye flour is missing in the list of ingredients. I’d really like to try this!
Wow, I wasn’t even thinking “breakfast” for this bread until you mentioned the coffee. I think it would be great as a sandwich bread too… a little roasted turkey with some lettuce and tomato… yum!
Where do I begin? You know I already have the bread pudding lined up and now I have go cue up this spinach-feta bread.
I love this blog!
Chuck, you see how much bread you have me making? And I don’t like bread you know, I like making it, having a taste and then I give it to my friends. I think you will soon have a fan club here in Barbados as my taster-friends have been raving about all your breads that I’ve made.
This looks great, spinach and feta go together so well.
I have just discovered your blog. I am charmed with it, and I am going to start today trying the recipes.
Un saludo, Begoña
That looks amazing! Spinach and feta are two of my favourite things.
Lovely combination of flavors!
love this bread, it looks so gorgeous. the flavor combo of spinach and feta is so classic, i bet it was wonderful (even if you really couldn’t taste the spinach as you mentioned). i definitely want to try to make this soon.
What excellent bread recipes. And your photos are nicely done. Very nice blog. I found you through the foodie blogroll.
The breads are so georgeous. They look so delicious also. Thanks for posting recipes. I will definately try some. We have really good bakers on island that make “island style breads” but we do not have bakeries that make breads like these. I miss our bread shop in Oregon.
ooh, that looks great! would be awesome for sandwiches with roasted peppers or tomatoes.
The loaf looks amazing! I can imagine how wonderful it tasted!
This bread looks so good! I am going to make it this weekend. I think I’ll take the recipe to our local baker too, I bet she’d love it!
Thanks
Dana Zia

I have loved the combination of feta and spinach for many years, but have not seem them combined so beautifully in a loaf of bread. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe and putting two of my favorite ingredients together in my favorite food – bread!
What a nicely flavoured bread!
This looks so amazing. I was just going to make this and realized we don’t get Rye Flour here in India. Would you recommend a good substitute? We don’t get bread flour here either – so I’m gonna have to sub all-purpose!
I have tried , It was very good but the shape was nothing like that in the photo ! how did you make yours such brety ?
Thank you so much for all your recipes that you generously share with us. I baked this Spinach Feta bread couple days back and boy! it was delicious….. one of the best breads I’ve had. Wrote about it here: http://onestopeats.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/spinach-feta-bread/
