Lemon Brioche Croissants

I love anything that has lemon in it and these Lemon Brioche Croissants are so light and buttery, with that slight tangy sweetflavor of the lemon pie filling in the center. Just delicious!

A while back my wife was invited to a baby shower. It was going to be her first child, so everyone was very excited. Not knowing the sex of the baby, it was decided to have a yellow theme for the shower. Along with gifts, they asked everyone to bring a finger food to share. My wife wanted to stick with the yellow theme, even when it came to the food. So, we decided to make something lemony. This is where my expertise regarding baby showers ended, and I’m fine with that!

But, first things first, my wife wanted to go shopping. So, off we went from store to store, searching and searching :( for that one perfect gift. Who knew it was so complex! I, of course, didn’t recall any of this nonsense when our children were born, but then again, my legs were starting to kill me and the only thing I’m thinking about is getting home and crashing on the couch. I know what everyone is thinking “typical man”. Finally we went into this little boutique and found a baby duckling gift basket filled with little duck clothing. About the size for a 6 month old. I have to admit it was very cute.

So, now it comes to the food. I decided to make a lazy man’s lemon filled croissants. After all the shopping, I was too pooped to be fiddling around with something as complicated as puff pastry. I thought of making brioche croissants filled with lemon. A brioche is a bread with lots of butter and eggs, I think it’s just as good as puff pastry. These Lemon Brioche Croissants were a perfect food item to take. You can eat them cold or warm and great as a finger food. They looked beautiful! I fill them with a store bought lemon pie filling. I know, shame on me for using store bought. But, I did say lazy man’s croissants after all. They were the hit of the party. Perfect for the yellow theme and down right tasty.

I don’t think I would be able to create something so beautiful! I’ll bet these would be super yummy with the Meyer Lemon Curd that I made recently (and for the record… it was really simple to make!) Beautiful pictures, and a nice yellow dessert for the baby shower!

I stumbled upon your post and now I am thinking I should run down to the bakery. The croissants are beautiful! I think if I made them they would not come out as perfect for yours. Oh and a really good cup of coffee with them would be the icing on the cake!

Chuck, sorry to bother you again. It’s a toss up at the weekend for the tomato bread and these lemon brioche croissants. Just one problem, are the cup sizes american? All UK recipe books just state grams. I know there are american and australian cups so i was wondering which these are.

  25. on 12 May 2009 at 8:02 am Julie

Has anyone actually made them? They may look great but the proof of the pudding and all that.
I am going to try to translate cup sizes into real measurements and give them a go, having just created some yummy lemon curd for the first time and then discovered it will only keep a week in the fridge, so every thing this week has a lemon them. LOL.
